Honorees are selected each year based on the body of work they have done to help kids in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee.
Year One: Larry and Sherry Schreck
Larry has taught in the Wenatchee Public School district at the High School level for 30 years, as well as coaching basketball and baseball for many years. Sherry is now retired from the Eastmont School district where she was an outstanding drama coach and English teacher. She also has been the heart and soul of the Short Shakespearians, a local drama group focusing on young students which she initiated and coached for the past 30 years.
Year Two: Jack and Jeanne Davisson
Jack was an outstanding science teacher in the Eastmont School District prior to retirement five years ago. His wife, Jeanne, also works within the same school district as a teacher and migrant school coordinator where she has had a great impact on the Hispanic children within the district. Both are the founders and coaches of the local AAU Barracuda Swim Team for thirty years, impacting thousands of children and youth over the years.
Year Three: Tom and Babs Bymes
Tom was a lifelong coach and principal at Wenatchee High School and is recognized for the terrific influence on both teachers and students for many years.
Year Four: Ed and Mary Sand
Both were lifelong music educators. Ed taught music in the Eastmont School District at the high school level. He also was the enthusiastic leader and conductor of the local Apollo Club Men’s Choir for many years. Mary was a piano teacher. Both have made a terrific impact on the musical lives of students and adults in the valley.
Year Five: Sally and Dan Jackson
Both were recognized for their 30 years of work on behalf of children and youth in the community. Dan was the exceptional director of the Wenatchee High Choral Department and Sally is known for her work with kids at the elementary level.
Year Six: Ike Cummings
Ike was recognized for his fifty years in education, coaching and as athletic director for Eastmont High School. Ike was coach of a state basketball championship team at Cashmere High School and was the catalyst for Eastmont School District hosting state championship meets for twenty years in both track and tennis.
